Terms of Service
01Acceptance & Eligibility
By reserving, purchasing, accessing, or using the Stori device and its associated services, you agree to these Terms. You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction) to reserve, purchase, or operate a Stori device. If you are using Stori on behalf of a company, you represent that you are authorized to accept these Terms on its behalf.
02Description of Service
Stori is a pre-configured hardware device — an on-device AI compute appliance — that pairs with the IP security cameras already mounted at your business. The device reads ONVIF/RTSP camera feeds locally, runs vision-language inference on-device, and emails you a single plain-English daily brief summarizing what was observed in your store the previous day. Footage and inference both remain on the device. Optional cloud-assisted processing may be enabled for specific tasks at your discretion; it is off by default.
Stori does not perform facial recognition, license-plate recognition, biometric tracking, weapons detection, or individual-identity matching. This is a permanent product attribute, not a v1 limitation.
03Account Responsibilities
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for the network configuration of your Stori device. You agree to provide accurate information and to notify us immediately of any unauthorized access to your account or device. You are responsible for ensuring that your installation of cameras and the Stori device complies with applicable workplace-monitoring, signage, and consent laws in your jurisdiction.
04License Grant & Restrictions
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Stori firmware, vision-AI software, and brief-generation engine on your purchased device. You may not:
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the firmware or AI software (except as permitted by law)
- Modify the firmware in ways that circumvent security or licensing mechanisms
- Redistribute, sublicense, or resell the software separately from the hardware
- Use the device to operate a commercial AI inference service for unaffiliated third parties
- Attempt to add facial recognition, biometric identification, or other identity-resolution capabilities to the device — these are explicitly out of scope and any modification to enable them is unauthorized
Open-source components included on the device are governed by their respective license terms, available at the Open Source Notices page.
05AI Service Disclaimers
AI outputs are non-deterministic. Stori may produce inaccurate, incomplete, or imprecise descriptions of observed behaviors. You are responsible for reviewing the daily brief and for verifying any specific event before acting on it — including before disciplinary action involving staff, before disputing a transaction, or before responding to a customer complaint.
Stori is not a security platform. It does not call police, dispatch alarms, monitor for active threats, or guarantee detection of any specific event. Do not rely on Stori for life-safety, intrusion response, or any application requiring continuous human monitoring.
We do not guarantee the accuracy, reliability, or availability of any AI model. Model capabilities may change as the brief-generation engine is updated.
06User Content & Data
You retain full ownership of all video footage, brief content, and configuration data created on your Stori device. We do not access, collect, or claim any rights to your on-device data. The recordings on your device are yours; if you cancel the service, you keep the device and the footage.
When you voluntarily submit feedback, feature requests, or bug reports to us, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use that feedback for product improvement.
07Prohibited Conduct
You agree not to use Stori to:
- Violate any applicable law or regulation, including workplace-monitoring, two-party-consent, wiretapping, and biometric-privacy statutes
- Monitor any space where the people in it have a reasonable expectation of privacy (restrooms, changing rooms, private offices used for confidential discussions)
- Conduct surveillance of identifiable individuals outside the scope of normal in-store recording (no covert workplace investigations through Stori)
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to systems, networks, or accounts
- Interfere with or disrupt Stori's update or telemetry services
- Use the device to conduct denial-of-service attacks or other abuse of network resources
08Third-Party Cameras & Networks
Stori is designed to read ONVIF and RTSP feeds from third-party IP cameras you own. Compatibility depends on the camera manufacturer's adherence to those standards and on your network configuration. We do not warrant that Stori will work with every camera; a compatibility checker is provided. We are not responsible for the conduct, reliability, or security of any third-party camera, NVR, or network device.
If you enable optional cloud-assisted processing, the selected provider's terms apply to that traffic.
09Intellectual Property
The Stori name, brand, hardware design, firmware (excluding open-source components), brief-generation engine, vertical templates, and documentation are the intellectual property of Stori Labs LLC. These Terms do not grant you any rights to our trademarks, trade dress, or proprietary technology beyond the limited license in Section 4.
10Pricing & Billing
Pre-launch reservations: Stori is currently in pre-launch. Joining the early-access list reserves your place in the first cohort and is free of charge — no card is collected at signup. Final pricing for the early-access cohort and for general availability will be communicated to you before any payment is collected.
Hardware: When the early-access cohort opens, the Stori device will be sold as a one-time hardware purchase. Founding-member subscription pricing is locked for the life of your subscription.
Subscription: A subscription covers the brief-generation engine, vertical-template updates, and software-security patches. Pricing model is one flat fee per location, month to month, no annual contract, no per-camera license.
Optional cloud-assisted processing: If you enable cloud routing for specific heavy tasks, you may be responsible for the cost of the selected third-party provider's API charges. Disclosed at the time of enrollment.
11Warranty Disclaimer
The Stori software, firmware, brief-generation engine, and vertical templates are provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Hardware warranty is governed separately by the Limited Hardware Warranty below.
12Limited Hardware Warranty
Stori Labs LLC warrants the Stori hardware device against manufacturing defects for one (1) year from the date of delivery. Extended warranty plans may be available at purchase.
Covered: Defects in materials and workmanship under normal use.
Not covered:
- Physical damage (drops, liquid, crushing, impact)
- Damage from unauthorized modification, jailbreaking, or firmware tampering
- Normal wear and tear
- Damage from power surges or improper power supply
- Cosmetic damage that does not affect functionality
- Environmental damage (excessive heat, humidity, dust)
Remedy: At our discretion, we will repair or replace the defective unit. Next-day replacement available across the continental United States. Contact hello@stori.app to initiate a warranty claim.
13Reservations, Returns & Refunds
Reservations are free and subject to product availability. Either party — you or Stori Labs LLC — may cancel a reservation at any time before the product ships, for any reason or no reason, with no obligation on either side.
Reservation Terms:
- A reservation is a pre-launch place-holder, not a guarantee of delivery. Product availability, specifications, pricing, and ship dates are subject to change.
- Your right to cancel: You may cancel your reservation at any time before the device ships, no questions asked. Use the unsubscribe link in any email or contact hello@stori.app.
- Our right to cancel: Stori Labs LLC reserves the right to cancel any reservation at any time before shipment — including for reasons of product availability, production delays, regulatory requirements, or business decisions. If we cancel and you have prepaid, you receive a full refund within 7 business days.
- Delay notifications: In compliance with the FTC Mail/Internet Order Rule, if we are unable to ship by a stated date, we will notify you of the revised ship date and your right to cancel.
Post-Delivery Returns:
30-day money-back guarantee. If your daily brief isn't useful in your first 30 days, return the device for a full refund. Original condition with all included accessories. We cover return shipping within the continental United States.
EU/UK customers: You have a statutory 14-day right of withdrawal from the date of delivery, in addition to our 30-day guarantee.
If you cancel and keep the box: The Stori device remains physically yours after cancellation. Without an active subscription, the brief-generation engine stops; the device's local recording, viewing, and clip-export functions remain operational. You retain access to your existing recordings.
14Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Stori Labs LLC's total liability for any claim arising from or related to the device or services is limited to the amount you paid for the device.
We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including lost profits, lost data, lost business opportunities, missed events, undetected incidents, or third-party claims arising from your use of the daily brief — even if we were advised of the possibility.
This limitation applies to claims based on warranty, contract, tort, or any other legal theory.
15Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Stori Labs LLC from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of the device, your violation of these Terms, your violation of any third-party rights, or your violation of applicable workplace-monitoring, biometric-privacy, or video-surveillance laws.
16Governing Law & Dispute Resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.
Any dispute arising from these Terms will be resolved through binding arbitration administered by JAMS, conducted individually (not as a class action). You may opt out of arbitration by notifying us in writing within 30 days of your purchase.
Class action waiver: You agree to resolve disputes individually and waive any right to participate in class-action lawsuits or class-wide arbitration.
17Export Controls
The Stori device and software may be subject to U.S. export control laws (EAR). You agree not to export, re-export, or transfer the device to any country, entity, or person prohibited by applicable export laws.
18Modifications to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email and posted on our website at least 30 days before taking effect. Continued use of the device or services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
